PRECARIAT'S CO-OPERATIVE, 2020
︎ Class: Studio 4
︎ Typology: Mixed-Use
︎ Location: Chinatown, San Francisco, CA
Precarious workers are in a constant struggle.
Their pursuit of flexibilty is hindered by their loss of stability.
The era of the career is over, and the gig economy has taken its place. An urban whirlwind surrounds this new workforce, its air filling its sails, leading it to uncharted territory. Familiar boundaries between home and work are blurred as the home becomes a way to earn capital, and hours of chauffeuring turn the car into a living space. By coming together, this whirlwind can be controlled. The scales will be balanced by cooperation.
This cooperatively owned complex allows commercial space to weave vertically through residencial spaces, resulting in a balance of order and chaos.
